</p> <div>01</div> <p> What is the Open Roads Promise?

The Open Roads Promise is a last-dollar scholarship initiative to help students get an affordable and quality college education. The program will connect you with dedicated support staff who will help them navigate and succeed in college.

</p> <div>02</div> <p>What are the eligibility requirements to be an Open Roads Promise Scholar?

Qualifying candidates must be:

  • a graduating senior from a participating Open Roads Promise high school
  • a U.S. resident
  • an in-district resident of Dawson, Glasscock, Howard or Martin County

They also must:

  • complete an Apply Texas Application
  • complete a FAFSA application
  • if accepted, must enroll either full-time or part-time and maintain a 2.0 Grade Point Average.

 

</p> <div>03</div> <p>When will the Open Roads Promise begin?

The first Open Roads Promise Scholars will be recruited in fall of 2024 and enrolled in classes in the Fall of 2025.

</p> <div>04</div> <p>What are the benefits of the Open Roads Promise?

The Open Roads Promise Scholarship covers the full cost of tuition that is not covered by other grants, scholarships, exemptions and benefits received by the student. It’s especially beneficial to dual credit students who have a head start on obtaining a degree.

</p> <div>05</div> <p>What does “last-dollar” funding mean?

The Open Roads Promise scholarship covers the tuition or the cost of classes after all grants and scholarships are applied.

</p> <div>06</div> <p>How is the Open Roads Promise initiative being funded?

The Open Roads Promise is both privately and publicly funded. Howard College has had generous support from Greater Texas Foundation, Ascendium Education Group and Economic Mobility Systems. Howard College will work to supplement the initiative through generous donors and supporters from throughout West Texas who share in the vision of affordable college for all.

</p> <div>07</div> <p>What type of courses can students enroll in as Open Roads Promise Scholars?

Students may take courses in a variety of formats. Open Roads Promise Scholars can enroll in either career and technical workforce programs or academic transfer courses, all must be accredited.

  • Complete the Open Roads Promise Pledge by May 15, 2025
  • Apply to Howard College by July 1, 2025
  • Submit a financial aid application (FAFSA/TASFA)
  • Register for courses for the Fall 2025 semester by July 15, 2025
